Why You’ll See Weddings from Boise, California, Oregon & Washington Throughout My Portfolio
One of the questions I get asked pretty often is where I’m actually based.
The short answer is Boise. The longer answer is that my business has never really been limited to one place.
I grew up in Northern California, so that’s where I photographed weddings when I first started my business. Over the years, I built relationships with couples, venues, and other wedding vendors throughout the area. And when my husband and I moved to Boise, I didn’t leave those connections behind. Instead, my business naturally grew in two places at once.
Today, I photograph weddings throughout Idaho, Northern California, Oregon, and Washington, while also traveling for weddings in other parts of the country whenever couples invite me along.
It’s become one of my favorite parts of this job.
Why I Don’t Think of Myself as “Just” a Boise Wedding Photographer
Moving to Idaho gave us a place that feels like home, but it didn’t change the way I approach my business.
Most of my couples aren’t choosing a photographer because they’re the closest person to the venue. They’re choosing someone whose work feels like what they’ve been looking for.
Sometimes that means I’m photographing a wedding twenty minutes from my home. Other weekends, I’m back in Northern California photographing at a venue I’ve worked at before, or spending the weekend somewhere in Oregon or Washington.
To me, those weddings don’t feel any different. They’re all part of the same business and the same goal: documenting the day in a way that feels honest, relaxed, and true to the couple.
The Pacific Northwest Has Always Felt Like a Natural Fit
If you’ve spent any time looking through my portfolio, you’ve probably noticed that I’m drawn to outdoor weddings, mountain views, forests, coastlines, vineyards, and places that feel connected to nature.
That’s one of the reasons I photograph so many weddings throughout the Pacific Northwest.
The scenery is beautiful, of course, but what I love most is that couples often plan weddings that feel intentional and personal. Whether it’s an intimate ceremony in the mountains, a vineyard wedding in Northern California, or a celebration tucked into the forests of Oregon, those weddings tend to reflect the couple instead of following a formula.
That’s something I connect with as both a photographer and a person.
Photographing in Different Places Has Made Me a Better Photographer
One thing I didn’t expect when I first started traveling regularly for weddings was how much it would shape the way I photograph.
Every location brings something different.
The light on the Oregon coast isn’t the same as the light in the foothills of Northern California. A wedding in downtown Boise feels completely different from one in the mountains of Washington. Even the pace of the day can change depending on where you’re getting married and what kind of experience you’re hoping to create.
Learning to adapt to those different environments has made me more confident walking into any wedding day. Instead of relying on one favorite location or one type of scenery, I’ve learned to pay attention to what’s unique about each place and photograph it in a way that still feels consistent with my style.
I think that’s one of the biggest advantages of working in several different regions. Every wedding teaches me something new, and every couple gets the benefit of that experience.
Thinking About Bringing a Photographer From Out of Town?
This is something I get asked fairly often, especially by couples planning destination weddings or getting married somewhere outside of a major city.
My advice is usually the same. Choose the photographer whose work you genuinely connect with.
If that’s someone local, that’s wonderful. If it’s someone who regularly travels to the area you’re getting married, that’s wonderful too.
Travel is a normal part of the wedding industry, and for many photographers, it’s simply part of how their business operates. The logistics can always be figured out. What’s much harder to replace is finding someone whose approach to documenting a wedding feels like the right fit for you.
That’s always been much more important to me than where the wedding happens to be.

- Washington
I’ve also been fortunate enough to photograph weddings in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, and Utah, and I always enjoy exploring somewhere new!
No matter where your wedding takes place, my approach stays the same. I want your day to feel relaxed enough that you can actually enjoy it, and I want your photos to reflect what it felt like to be there—not just what everything looked like.
